Photo shoots for engagement pictures reflect and revolved around a theme. It would involve memorable places and reflecting the couple’s personalities. The pictures can be fun, but seriousness also included in some shots as well. Any ideas or inputs are welcomed. Below are some of the things that would need to be considered prior to the photo shoot:
Locations
I’m open for any locations that the couple have in mind, particularly memorable and hold special place in their heart. It gives extra flavor and meanings to the pictures. Other that that, I like shots in the natural scenery (fields, garden, canal, and etc.), crowded places, and pretty much anything in frame.
To those who are living in Indianapolis, I find canal walk, Indianapolis Museum of Art, and parts of downtown (monument circle, old buildings, and etc) as the most preferable for couples here in town.
Attire and dresses
2-3 outfit changes are preferable. I would suggest something that you are comfortable wearing, artistic, and matching. Formal dresses are also welcomed. Below is the list of suggestions:
1. Jeans and casual button shirts. Preferably complementary in style and color. it doesn’t have to match one to one, but would be the same color theme (fall colors or different shades of same color). Feel free to replace jeans with khakis (men or/and lady) or skirts (lady). As a note, darker colors are slimming and they are also easier to photograph. But it shouldn’t be an issue and feel free to use something in white. :)
2. More than casual. Nice slaks a white blouse and heels , fancy coat and gloves , will look really nice. Guys can have dress shoes, jeans, and button shirts.
3. Semi formal? If you like to be little more formal, it’s fine as long as they are the same level of dressyness. :)
4. Wear the shoes that you love and comfortable to walk in. We’ll be walking or driving from one place to another quite a bit.
Weather and timing
I love taking pictures early to mid morning or late in the day (close to sunset), but anytime during the day is fine as well. The reason behind this is that, mid day tends to have more sun that any part during the day, but can be mitigated with different means.
Miscellaneous
Other than the information provided above, feel free to bring other things with you to make pictures more alive and memorable. I’ve done some shots with couples who like music and were able to take pictures playing the guitar and etc. Another example was with the couples who met each other during their school days, we went to the campus and take pictures with them wearing eye glasses and carrying bookbags and books.
