Superbowl XLVI & Indianapolis

I had the privilege to walk around the downtown area with colleagues during the lunch time to see what the city had prepared itself for one of the biggest American sporting event in Superbowl XLVI. I couldn’t image what it would be like in the evening, but I’m already impressed with what the city of Indianapolis had done. The city has been transformed and grew so much. The vibes are definitely out there with all the cool festivities and everyone is so excited, even well before the actual event. Great job Indianapolis, its Superbowl’s committee, and the volunteers!! :)

Destination: Tangkuban Perahu Mountain (Indonesia)

I had the privilege not only being back to my hometown in Bandung for two weeks, but also visited the tourist attraction in Tangkuban perahu mountain. Tangkuban Perahu is a a dormant volcano and a popular attraction where one can hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot springs and boiling mud up close. It is north from the city of Bandung and last erupted in 1959. One interesting fact is that this mountain called “Tangkuban Perahu” which roughly translate to “upturned boat,” which refer to the local legend and the shape being upturned boat.

I enjoyed the trip and always welcomed the cooler climate. The view is breathtaking and walking along side and further down the mountain is very relaxing. :)

Jackie + Herbert + Pre-Wedding

Meet Jackie and Herbert. I first met both individuals in 2002 having gone to the same university together and friends with the international students in the campus. We would often see each other back then since the Indonesian and Malaysian would hang out together and close proximity from each other in the international student apartment. Jackie is originated from Indonesia and where Herbert is from Malaysia.

It’s been years since the last time that I saw them and it was an honor to take their pre-wedding pictures. They are now married and will have the reception to celebrate the event toward the end of the year.

Pictures are taken in Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. We only had few hours due to the activities at work, but it was memorable. It’s hard not to smile and laugh when hanging out with the couple and just overall enjoying the conversation and time spent during the photo shoot. I’m thankful for the time spent for the occasion and blessed! :)

Destination: Brown County + Autumn 2011

Someone once said that nature brings blessing to every time and season. It is so true and I was fortunate to have the opportunity in visiting the Brown County State park in Nashville, Indiana this past Saturday with our royal guest and friend in Mr. Pilankar from Mumbai, India. Not only that it’s a perfect season to show our fall foliage in Midwest, but also a great way to take a break from such a busy year from work and just relax. :)

It was a blast! Even though the colors are not at its peak, I enjoyed driving on the road surrounded by colorful trees, sunroof open, and watched the leaves falling. We also had a chance to sit down on the grass and by the shade for lunch, walked 1.5 miles on the trail, and attempted to capture different leaf colors.

To cap the day and after the exhausting walk in the park, we had wonderful root beer float mixed with the home made vanilla ice cream before doing a quick walk in the Nashville’s downtown where all the arts and craft shops are residing. I’m truly blessed and love the landscape photography! :)

Destination: one fine day in Chicago

It was truly one fine day in Chicago! With the plan being a last minute decision, we decided to drive up to the windy city and spent time with my mom’s good friend and her wonderful family. My mom has been wanting to meet her in person and it’s been years.

The last time that they met in person was when mom was still hospitalized and had complications after the bone marrow transplant, which took place little over 6 years ago. Mom always remembered how she and her family would drive at least 8 hours to the hospital (National Institute of Health) in Bethesda, Maryland just to visit. She was so touched and always thankful for that. It is true that good friendship goes a long way. :) Our family is blessed to have wonderful and supportive friends and they are one of them.

The day spent in Chicago started with dimsum in China town, riding the boat in the Navy Pier, enjoying the scene in the Planetarium area, and watching the interactive theatre in the museum. Wonderful moments and truly a blessing. I can tell that everyone is enjoying each other’s company especially mom and her friend. Thank you so much to everyone on the trip and most importantly the Lord for that opportunity! :)

PS. It was also enjoyable to spent time with the kids! The twins are adorable and fun time with Stephanie and Stephen as well. :)

Daniel + 2nd birthday

Daniel will turn two very soon and it was a fun birthday with the Nick Jr’s “Go, Diego, Go!” theme. He was active, enjoying the commute around the area with his push car toy and love playing the soap bubbles. He is so adorable and has grown so much. My favorite moments of Daniel was when he was figuring out on how to blow the candle and how excited he was when opening the present. He would shout “wow” with his mouth open (even just when seeing the bag), starts reading the book from front to back and back to front, and finally making the train “tut tut” sound with the hand signal up and down when seeing “Thomas the Tank Engine” train.

It was an overall memorable event and it’s always good to see two of my good friends from college, seeing how their son has grown, and meeting their friendly family. Other than that, the food was delicious and I love the Philippines’s ice desert in “halo halo.” Thank you so much for having me and I’m blessed! :)

James + Bella + Jackson

Meet James with his adorable children, Bella and Jackson. The family photo shoot was referred by a friend and I couldn’t be more blessed by the session. They are a fun and friendly family and you can just tell that the children have a great relationship with the father. Everyone enjoyed a company of each other and the children were so energetic running around and laughed heartily. The pictures were taken by the Indiana State Museum area and Indianapolis canal walk.

Reflecting at the session, I can say that I was touched and just truly blessed being able to take their pictures. I came from a single parent family with my father passed away when I was still very young. It makes me happy to see such a close knit family especially when having a special bond with the father. Another note, I also remembered how well mannered both Bella and Jackson were as each one of them hugged me in saying thank you. I am the one who should be thankful to the family and friend who had referred them. I’m blessed! :)

Suzanne + Roger + Couple

Meet Suzanne and Roger. This is the first photo shoot in the summer season and I had the privilege to take pictures for the couple, who lives in two different cities. It was an interesting session with the sun and weather being warm & humid. Most of scene had to be taken on the shade, but that didn’t stop the fun. :) It was my privilege meeting them, getting to know each individual, and had a good time walking around the area for the photo shoot. Destination: Niagara Falls, Canada

Last destination on the family reunion and trip was the Niagara Falls, Canada. Having been there years ago, I first thought about knowing what it would be like. I soon realized through the trip that I was wrong. This particular Niagara Falls experience was special and unforgettable because of the time spent with each of the family members and complete package pass to all of the most visited areas within Niagara falls.

From the mist boat ride, journey under the waterfall, Niagara’s fury interactive movie, and lastly the whitewater rapids experience, it was memorable. I enjoyed each moments and even more with the camera with me. It allowed me to pay more attentions in details and truly enjoy the experience. :)

Destination: Toronto, Canada

After attending my cousin’s graduation in Lansing, Michigan, I had the pleasure in spending the time with the family and all relatives from my mother side. It was a rare opportunity where relatives in HongKong, Virginia, Indiana, and Michigan got together in a road trip to Toronto and eventually Niagara Falls, Canada. We also met a friend of our aunt and his family, who lives in the city of Massasauga, west of Toronto. They were extremely friendly and everything that they have done for us are so much appreciated. We are so thankful and blessed having this opportunity. :)

As far as my impression of the city of Toronto, it is definitely attractive with so many things to do in and out of the downtown area. If it wasn’t for the cold weather in the winter, I think everyone would love to move in to the city. :) It is diverse and there are many great spots in suburb area and even the outskirts city surrounding this metropolitan.

Destination: Mumbai + Bangalore (India)

The two weeks business trip to India (city of Mumbai and Bangalore) has surpassed my expectation and had turned into a lifetime experience. I’m very blessed! Outside of the productive hours in the office, both my colleague and I got attached with the team both in Mumbai and Bangalore and truly appreciate the friendship. Everyone treated us so well and we learned so much about them. They often make me smile because of the fun and passion that they have in the office and during the team dinner.

There are many memorable moments and I will not forget the laughters during the team dinner in both Mumbai and Bangalore, celebrating Holi in colors, visiting the palace and temples, learning the culture and cricket, and trying out different Indian food.

Diana + Scott + Family

Meet Diana, Scott, and the family. I met them through a friend and it was my privilege capturing their family pictures and the newborn baby. The session was interactive as daily activities around the house were captured. From witnessing their adorable son playing his favorite drum to taking snaps of the baby sleeping, I had fun working with them. They are extremely friendly and I’m thankful.

One of my favorite moments of the session was when the baby was sleeping. It was very peaceful and I wholeheartedly agreed with what the mom had to say about it. “When the baby sleep, they are like an angel without wings.” I’m blessed!

Ajeng + Askin + Pre-Wedding

Meet Askin and Ajeng. I knew both of them through friends with one from the international community and another through circle of Indonesian friends. It’s been awhile that I haven’t met both of them and glad that I was able to take their pre-wedding pictures prior to their wedding in Indonesia, later on this year.

Forecasted with a high of 30F, we were thinking of a warmer day until the winds start to kick in. It was cold and we had to strategically move around mixing indoor and outdoor shots. A little hectic, but the session overall turned out well and we had a lot of fun. It was nice going back to the campus where they first met each other and had great conversation as we drive from one location to another. I’m blessed and would like to thank both of the couple for their time. :)

Sarah + Derrick + Daniel

It’s always a blessing seeing old friends especially with Derrick, Sarah, and little Daniel. The parents are my good friends and it’s amazing seeing Daniel has grown since the last time I saw him. In fact, you can see previous Daniel threads from when he was one month old to his most recent one year birthday. I got excited to see how he is now running around having fun. :)

The location of the photo shoot is at the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library located in downtown. Very nicely architected building combining the old traditional layout with the futuristic/modern structure full of new learning technologies.

Meet Giselle and the family. This is the third and final series of the thee families at the brown county state park (see separate blog entries for the other two). I was happy seeing them again and always enjoy working with each individuals. :)

Like always, everyone is extremely friendly and it makes me smile every time I see them. In this photo shoot, I saw Giselle’s new face expression and her big smile. She was so adorable and everyone was loving it. :) I’m so thankful for the opportunity to capture their moments once again and I’m blessed.

Meet Quyen, Remy, and the family. This is my second photo shoot with them with the first one being in IMA (Indianapolis Museum art). Like the first time, the family was so friendly and an overall fun experience working interactively with them. Remy, the father of the family, on the same note is creative and would come up with fun ideas. The children absolutely love it and they are so adorable. :) I’m thankful being able to capture their family picture, getting to know each individuals even better, and I’m blessed! :)

Meet Ben and his family. This is the first series of the three families at the brown county state park (see separate blog entries for the other two). It was my privilege meeting and working with the them. The children are so cute and we got the good start getting attacked by the lady bugs during the photo shoot in the open area. They, however, are so sweet. While taking turn taking pictures of the parent with the little one, one of them would start getting rid of the lady bugs on my shoulder. :)

It was fun as we walked different area of the park, appreciative for their time, and thankful getting to know the family. I’m blessed! :)

Meet Eriko and Narith. I’ve known both of them for several years and I was so happy when first being asked to take their engagement pictures. It was an honor and there is nothing like capturing your friend’s happiness through pictures.

Tatya + Karniwa + Wedding

Big congratulation to both Tatya and Karniwa. From the time that I stepped in to the hotel room to start covering for the wedding, I knew it’ll be a fun one! Tatya and her bridesmaid are not only friendly, but I must say “wild” in a good way and everyone enjoyed each others company. It definitely made the environment very relaxing. :)

There were several moments that I remembered the most from their wedding day and very touching. It was the expression in Tatya’s mother as I saw tears coming from her eyes. It happened during the Indonesian’s tradition ceremony as the bride and groom paid respect to the parents and when the reverend prayed over her health at the reception. It must meant a lot and a huge blessing being present in good health and witnessing her daughter full of smiles on her big day. Being able to witness such moments, I’m blessed!

Meet Ko Wang2 and Ci Ing2′s family. I first met them when visiting one of my good Indonesian friends 10 years ago. They were always friendly and still the same until today.
